We both grew up in Lawrence, Kansas, but didn’t meet until the summer of 2022. Zachary had listed his house for sale, and Abigail came by to photograph it. That turned into an 8 a.m. coffee date... followed by a string of fun ones. Honorable mentions include a sailboat date (though the boat never actually left the slip) and a carbonara dinner in Zach's new house with no furniture.

We spent our first few months enjoying lots of coffee, eating our way through just about every restaurant in town, and a few camping trips in Vanny DeVito—Zach’s Volkswagen camper van.

As time went on, we got to know each other through a mix of everyday moments and big adventures—traveling with friends, spending time with our wonderful families, focusing on our careers, and figuring life out as we went.

On a rainy day in Scotland, on a trip with amazing friends, we made a decision we’d been talking about since our first ski trip to Colorado: we were going to move to the mountains. So we started making plans, even though saying goodbye to Lawrence wasn’t easy.

On November 16, 2025—Abigail’s birthday—we packed a picnic and went for a bike ride. After devouring some charcuterie, Zachary pulled out the sweetest surprise: a handwritten note. And just like that, we were engaged. We biked home with cheeks sore from smiling.

Two months later, we shoved all our stuff into a tiny U-Haul and made the eight-hour drive to Boulder, Colorado, where we live now. We’re building a life we love—and hoping a dog will join it soon.
